"I acquired the riveted mail from Harry about 8 years ago. He was always a part-time maker. Having a "real job" during the day, he used to relax in the evenings after work by knitting mail. The particular shirt I own is his first, done way back in the 70's. At that time, nobody was really doing riveted mail and it was up to him to develop his own methods.
In fact, when he visited David Edge at the Wallace Collection back in the early 90's, David had mentioned that he wasn't aware of anyone making riveted mail at that time. Harry pulled out a mantle that he had brought along and subsequently impressed all that saw it!
Since my pieces, Harry started making more period-correct mail with flattened rings and triangular wedge-shaped rivets. These pieces are truly just like the authentic ones. Amazing.
Because Harry isn't really a maker for-sale, his pieces would be extremely expensive to purchase. As an example, I'd probably have to get about $1250-$1500 US for the the shirt and mantle I have.
There are many other less expensive options available that are imported from "third world" countries, though they are undoubtedly of lesser quality. Reproduction riveted mail isn't as rare as it once was, but most of it is of the imported variety with varying degrees of quality.
Another source for high-quality (and expensive) mail is:

Sadly, I've lost contact with Harry. He's a wonderful guy and I hope to find him again."
