Jag håller med Karin - av de bilder jag har sett, har jag aldrig sett en kvinna med annan typ av förkläde än midjeförkläde. Midjeförkläden är också i stort sett lika vanliga på män som ovan nämnda förkläden.

Jag har för mig att midjeförkläden på män mest används av män som jobbar med mat, typ kockar och kanske slaktare.

Annars är ett vanligt midjeförkläde precis som Peter skriver inte så jättekomplicerat. Tag ett tygstycke, ca 70 cm brett och så långt som du vill ha ditt förkläde. Rynka ihop det till önskad bredd i midjan, eller lägg några veck. Det sitter snyggare då och avbildade förkläden verkar visa på att det finns någon form av rynk, veck eller smock i midjan. Klipp en lång remsa tyg till knytbandet, 5-10 cm bred beroende på hur brett du vill ha det. Vik in kanterna på bandet, vik det dubbelt och "stoppa in" och sy fast förklädesstycket i det.

Jag skulle, enligt min erfarenhet, säga att jag snarare tror att det kan vara tvärt om, eller att det rör sig om 50/50.

Jag vet inget om bevarade förkläden, och kan därmed inte säga "hur det var", men med tanke på funktionen, hur bilderna ser ut och hur dagens förkläden fungerar, kan jag tro att det ser ut som följer:

Min fru sydde ett midjeförkläde genom att ta ett rektangulärt tygstycke och sy fast ett enda långt band på det. Det var lika enkelt som man tänker sig.

För övrigt har väl sveriges allmoge under 1600- till 1800-talen haft den könsuppdelningen på förkläden som du nämner. Kvinnor med midjeförkläden och män med förkläden som har bröstlapp. Skulle vara jättekul att veta när det idealet dök upp.
