Handgjorda knappnålar i ex. mässing är lite grövre och sitter bättre, men då de också är betydligt dyrare att ersätta om de försvinner fäster jag dem på samma sätt som ovan. Jag använder också birgittahätta som bas, nålar fast haklinet med en nål på var sida av hjässan (mitt haklin överlappar en del), en i nacken, och sedan 2-3 stycken för att fästa huvudlinet, beroende på hur mycket det blåser. Jag låter ofta spetsen på nålarna vara begravda i tyglagren, för att minimera risken att jag eller någon annan river sig på dem. Jag tycker att det fungerar bra.

Sen fäster jag haklinet. Det fäster jag med två nålar i höjd med tinningarna. Sen lägger jag på huvudlinet och fäster med två nålar till, också de i höjd med tinningarna. Tekniskt sätt borde man kunnat använda samma nålar till att fästa huvudlin och haklin, men det känns svårt.

När jag håller på och syr och nålar ihop tygstycken slutar det alltid med att golvet är översållat av nålar som har lossnat ur tyget. Jag kan inte tänka mig att de skulle sitta kvar i ett haklin heller...

Jag har sett en fiffig anordning i Thursfield vid namn "fillet". Det är ett pannband på 10 centimeters bredd med knytpand som man lägger över hårfästet och fäster nere i nacken. Sen nålar man fast haklinet mot filleten, drar ändarna över huvudet och nålar ihop dem i varandra. Nedanför hakan drar man haklinet bakåt och nålar ihop linet i nacken. Därefter lägger man doket över och nålar fast även detta i filleten. Verkar jättesmart, tycker jag! En fillet kan naturligtvis användas med bara dok också. Med en fillet behöver man bara några få nålar kan man få den där vackra "lösa" looken man ser på många bilder, men huvudlinen sitter ändå bra fast.
