När jag klippte till en nu särk blir det stadkanter på nästan alla sidsömmar. Hur ska jag sy istället för en vanlig fällsöm? Ska jag fälla stadkanterna åt ett håll eller bara låta dem vara? Det är väldigt tunna och vackra stadkanter.

Själv klipper jag alltid bort stadkanterna eller gömmer dem i fällsömmen om de inte är för framträdande.

Stadkanter med annorlunda struktur förekommer dock på historiska textilier, ibland har man använt en kanttråd i avvikande tjocklek och ibland verkar man ha trätt in inslaget annorlunda i kanterna. Om jag minns rätt finns det flertalet artiklar som tar upp olika gamla stadkanter i flera av NESAT-volymerna (North European Symposium for Archaeological Textiles). I "Olddanske Tekstiler" av Margrethe Hald finns det teckningar av lite olika varianter av stadkanter från järnåldersfynd.

Stadkanter är en naturlig effekt av att man låter inslaget gå in i väven igen efter att skälet skiftats. Det har funnist så länge man vävt. Det är möjligt att stadkanten förändrats på något vis med de moderna vävmaskinerna, det har jag ingen aning om, men stadkanten som sådan fanns långt tidigare.

Jo, jag menade de lite mer framträdande stadkanterna, de som har en helt annorlunda struktur än tyget i övrigt och oftast har små hål i sig och en tråd i avvikande färg. Har vävt lite själv och sett en historisk vävstol med väv i, och där fanns det inget som kunde liknas vid de moderna stadkanterna.
